We have many options for staying here at Shankar Prasad. You are welcome to come and stay as a guest or to offer your time to develop your sadhana (spiritual practice) by doing seva (selfless service), also known as karma yoga.
All visitors are welcome to participate fully in the ashram activities, including meal time (three vegetarian meals a day, tea, coffee and herbal drinks).
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding the rates for each type of stay.
Guest in Homestay: We also have a separate guesthouse residence, so you can also come to the retreat center as a guest. Guests are welcome to stay and participate in the ashram activities. All guests are required to help with the daily cleaning (1/2 hour per day) and especially cleaning up after meals. Room and board are all inclusive.
Seva Stays: Karma Yoga is the yoga of work or action. A Karma Yogi works with full attention on his/her work, and detaches from the outcome of the work. Simply the action of work is in itself a meditation. In this way we can grow deeper in our understanding of ourselves and our minds, while also learning new skills and developing teamwork and self awareness.
Sevaks are required to stay for a minimum two week commitment. Volunteers participate in Karma Yoga in the mornings and afternoon. We have one and a half days off per week. Saturdays are a light work day and Sundays are off.
Long-term stays: We are a small community living and progressing together in our spiritual pursuits. We welcome long term volunteers to help run the ashram and to head community projects (dog sterilization, waste management etc).
Community: We are a small community living and progressing together in our spiritual pursuits. We are open to people who are interested in staying at the ashram long-term (all ages), serving wherever needed, or as general office/homestay manager, or organic farm manager.
“Soft Landing in India” stay: We offer first timers to India a “Soft Landing in India” program in which we will give an introduction to getting around safely and local culture and norms and suggest best places to visit and stay. You will receive a bit extra looking after to ensure you adjusting quite well to the buzzing Indian culture.
Retreats: We have had several retreats here at Shankar Prasad, and open our space to short and long-term retreat packages for groups interested in expanding their knowledge of yoga meditation techniques. We can tailor make course offerings based on your personal or group needs and interests.
